What it's about ?
In its legal form, it is a nonprofit, cultural association. But in reality it is much more than that. It came about in 2003, as a result of a decision made by five people. Five friends who discovered they shared a common passion for a product that, despite notorious, is also quite unknown. A club in the full sense of the word - a group with a common interest, a gathering of friends, colleagues and confreres, an assembly..."
The Cocoa Club is currently chaired by its founder and main initiator, Odete Estevão, designer by profession, a dietitian by vocation and chocolatière by passion.
Why cocoa?
Due to being enormously interesting, because it is so universal, and for its complexity! Indeed Nature has exceeded itself in creating an unequal and unique product Cocoa was the beverage of the Gods, was used as a currency, was used for offerings, was an object of worship, as well as a miracle cure. It was a tree of the jungle and a garden plant. It was an object of study, a target for thefts, a lure for ignorant ones, and once was a reason for politicians' greed. It was a pretext for fighting and for murder, it was written as a character in novels, was loved and hated, was even forgotten.
Few products will be richer or more interesting. The cocoa is all that, but above all is a product that may be turned into chocolate: there, the keyword has been mentioned, CHOCOLATE. Here a whole new world is unraveled...
Chocolate
A new world to discover, explore, to get to know. A world that we would like to disclose, and share. But a world we like to taste, to eat, to breathe, to take in. A magical world, that allows us to rise up to an elite of talented alchemists - from the beginning of the process until the most demanding of gourmet, from the pure chemistry to the crafts workshop, from the imagination to reality, there is a place for everything and for everyone. It is precisely this that we want to share with everyone!
How?
The Cocoa Club of Portugal (The Portuguese Cocoa Club) promotes at least three events annually. Events that arise from the deepest corner of the imagination and from opportunities that ma arise. By chocolate tasting, guided by reputable experts in the area. Sophisticated meals with allusions, or inclusions, chocolate in its various forms and flavors. Conferences and lectures of a cultural nature, addressing nutritional aspects, health benefits, and cosmetic properties, there is so much to discover, it is an inexhaustible theme...
At the end of each year there is the inescapable custom of the Gala Dinner, exclusive to members of the club and their partners.
But that is not all...
The Cocoa Club of Portugal also promotes meetings between members and renowned chocolatiers, visits to Fairs and Conferences where chocolate is the main attraction, in the country as well as abroad. Workshops are also organized by the club, aimed at learning new mysteries and techniques. Trips to schools and other institutions are also organized by the Club.
And, who knows, maybe even travel to exotic and tropical countries, for on-site visits to the cocoa producing farms of recognized competence...
